PRESS RELEASEBRITS CHOOSE MARVIN TO ‘GET IT ON’ WITH THIS VALENTINE’S Amazon.co.uk reveals Marvin Gaye will be master of the UK’s bedrooms, while Ant & Dec’s ‘Ready to Rhumble’ puts them off a fumble 12 February 2007 Brits are looking forward to a bit of Sexual Healing this Valentine’s Day, according to research published today by Amazon.co.uk. The leading online retailer, which recently launched its 'Sex and Sensuality' store, has commissioned a poll of the UK’s bedroom music tastes which reveals that a whopping 31% of people choose to get amorous to the songs of Marvin Gaye, with votes for most sexy song split between his two famous bedroom tracks 'Sexual Healing' (18%) and ‘Let’s Get it On’ (13%). Although Marvin Gaye had two hits with the Brits, deeper-voiced crooner Barry White was named as the maker of the sexiest songs overall, with a third of those polled naming the larger-than-life legend as the man with the hottest back catalogue. As for songs that Brits won’t be using to get in the mood on the 14th of February, there were two clear winners – ‘Who Let the Dogs Out?’ by the Baha Men (19%), and ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ by The Prodigy (14%) were bottom of the pops when it came to romance. Britons have also made it clear PJ & Duncan’s legendary hit ‘Lets Get Ready to Rhumble’ puts them off a fumble, coming third in the list of songs that are a turn off. Rakhi Parekh, UK media director from Amazon.co.uk, explains: “Music is an essential part of a couple’s bedroom experience and it seems that for the majority of the UK, there is nothing better than classic R&B to get them in the mood for Valentines Day. “Marvin Gaye and Barry White were masters of sensual soul and that is why the UK public voted them above everyone else as the providers of the soundtrack to their love lives. “However, if your music tastes aren’t in synch, Amazon’s new ‘Sex and Sensuality’ store gives couples the chance to experiment with other ways to spice up their sex lives.” MORE ...
Other interesting finds from the survey were as follows: • Whilst only 30% of respondents claimed to have a special song, some of the responses were eye-opening to say the least. It's hard to imagine a romantic relationship defined by DJ Sammy's ‘Heaven’... • On the flipside, there were some types of music that don't get people in the mood at all - whilst there's a rock revival going on in the charts, with bands like Coheed and Cambria storming up the Amazon sales charts, it's staying out of the bedroom as nearly 20% of respondents cited Hard Rock and Metal as the worst musical genre for making love. • Brits have had their fair share of bad experiences in the bedroom thanks (or no thanks) to music: • “Got off with a girl at a party, went back to her place. When we entered the bedroom I realized this was a big mistake. The walls were covered with posters of Robbie Williams and other boy band types and she put on a boy band cd. I sneaked a look at her CD collection, it was all chart music and nothing else.’Oops,’ I thought, ‘This is never going to work,’ so faked an emergency and left.” • “Singing & gyrating to 'MR BOOMBASTIC" BY SHAGGY... My husband is 47....” • “Student days, cute girl at a party, eyes meet. Much drink, stagger back home together, Horror - Country and Western fan!” The survey, conducted online on behalf of Amazon.co.uk by 72-point, polled over 2000 over-18s from the British Isles to discover their feelings on what music was best to get people in the mood for love.
